Winona Oak / Oaks
Winona Oak / Oaks - Artist / Songwriter
Born and raised in the Nordic forests of Sweden on small crop of land called Sollerön - known as the Island of the Sun - Winona Oak is every bit as enchanting as her origin story. With a childhood spent encountering more animals than people, she grew up a trained horse acrobat and pursued creative expression however she could, writing poetry and songs from a young age. Her grandmother performed in the Swedish Royal Opera, and passed that legacy onto Winona, who began playing violin at 5 years old and piano at 9 years, in addition to singing throughout her youth.
After moving to Stockholm to pursue her passion for music, a leap of faith to attend Neon Gold Records' writing retreat in the Nicaraguan jungle in 2017 connected her with Australian electronic maestro What So Not. She would go on to co-write his next two singles “Better” and “Stuck In Orbit”, eventually stepping into the spotlight as both the writer and featured artist on his 2018 single “Beautiful”. She closed that year with her biggest writing credit and feature to date on The Chainsmokers’ “Hope”.
After her debut and 3 singles of her own in 2019, her dramatic and enchanting debut EP “Closure” was released in February 2020 followed by sophomore EP “SHE” in October the same year.
With more marquee collaborations as well as original material, 2022 looks set up to be another intriguing year in the world of Winona and the birth of her debut album.
Her lyrics are characterized by emotional depth, drawing from personal experiences to convey themes of love, heartache, and empowerment. She employs vivid imagery and poetic metaphors to craft memorable songs with catchy melodies, from chart-topping hits to intimate ballads.
Winona´s electronic alter ego Oaks is her dedicated plunge into electronic music, a creative space with no rules, built for experimentation, collaboration, and sonic exploration. Having shared creative space with the likes of The Chainsmokers, Tiësto, Martin Garrix, Robin Schulz, BUNT. and others, Oaks carries the weight of real industry experience while pushing toward something entirely her own. This is where Winona's poetic sensibility collides with pulsing, electrifying productions. The result is a sound that's both intimate and expansive, familiar yet impossible to place. 2026 marks a new chapter. Oaks is just getting started.
Winona Oak is published by The Very Good Songs, administered by Sony Music Publishing and signed as an artist to Nettwerk Music Group.
